Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A Direct Approach to Trauma Recovery
My belief is that EMDR Therapy is a way to change your relationship to traumatic or distressing memories that have informed who you are and what you believe about yourself. For many people, there are core distressing memories that have contributed to an organizing principle of how we move through the world. It is possible to move more easily, happily, when these memories are reprocessed.
How it Works
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, traditionally with eye movement but can also be used with bilateral tapping or audio cues — and works just as effectively via teletherapy. EMDR therapy is an internationally recognized evidence-based treatment for PTSD and trauma. It doesn’t “erase” the memory. It simply allows you to revisit/process the memory from a regulated brain state that is able to integrate the memory rather than an activated brain state that fragments it.
What You’ll Gain
Sense of calm around distressing memories and related thoughts/beliefs that used to cause anxiety and upset
A newfound sense of confidence or wellbeing around certain beliefs one held
Deeper self-compassion
A sense of serenity where you once felt out of control
